30 Day Art Challenge

As you may have noticed, my posts are slowly becoming shorter and more infrequent. This spring I will likely be writing less as I prepare for my sail north in a little over a month. As I move from winter (hibernation season) back into the busyness and expansion of the warmer months I have much less time for writing because I choose to focus my energy on other activities. One of the most important aspects of my life that I cannot allow to get buried in business is my art. Of course, I’m still working on art for my business svPhoenix Studio, but art is so much more than just that. In order to share and sell good work with you all, I must be consistently practicing and exercising my creativity.

With all of that I want to invite you all into my 30 Day Art Challenge that I’m beginning today, on the first day of April. Of course, like any 30 Day Challenge this is something that can be started at any time. I’ve put together 30 prompts to create little pieces each day. I’ve chosen to do these prompts using watercolor (because that’s a medium I’m working on), but they can be done with anything – even a pencil and the back of an envelope. Here are the prompts:

I highly encourage folks to join me in these 30 days. If you do any of the prompts, I would love it if you shared them with me!

Beyond acting as a tool for me to practice my art and creativity, creating something each day also goes a lot deeper. Sitting and spending 5, 10 or 15 minutes focusing on creating an image is an amazing way to practice mindfulness. Putting your phone down for a small amount of time and creating something helps you pause during the day, and I strongly believe that we all need to pause much more often. Most of the prompts I’ve come up with are simple and light. They are designed to have fun with, with absolutely no pressure about the outcome. Whether you are a practicing artist or have absolutely no experience with visual art – doodling can always be fun!

So if you join me, I hope it can bring you some amount of joy each day. Happy doodles!!

PS: If you want to read more about my thoughts on transitioning into spring and summer check out these posts! I will likely be revisiting these ideas soon, so stay tuned for that!
