Art For The Sake Of Art

This week I just wanted to post a fun short update on some of the art I’m working on that isn’t a part of sv Phoenix Studio. Sometimes it can be fun to work in a different medium than what you’ve been used to. I’ve been designing a lot of prints lately, so I decided to spend some time playing with oil and collage.

Painting is so different from printing because you can actually use shading and color gradients when painting, as opposed to the very graphic style of positive and negative space in printing. I really like this photo of me in Friend Ship’s engine room, so I decided to paint it. Of course I’m not finished, but here is the ‘work in progress’ picture:

For my collage I decided to cut up my misprints in order to make cool designs. This was inspired by a post that I saw on instagram by @mollylemonart. She has put together an #originalprintcollage challenge where she has set different themes for different stretches of days. The themes are: “Home” “Pattern” “Miniature” and “Water”. I haven’t decided whether this print will be part of the “Pattern” or “Water” theme, but regardless I had a ton of fun making it:

Sometimes it can be nice to make things just for fun. Thanks for reading!

LET’S KEEP IN TOUCH!

I'd love to keep you updated on my latest posts and studio updates!

  1. I love the one of the lighthouse with the lake in the background! Inspiring; I used to do a collage or two a year, but haven’t done one in at least a year. You got me thinking

  2. Speaking of your thoughts, I’m curious about what you like about the picture of you in the engine room. What do you notice? ~/)~
